The voice of the character (Paige) telling the audience their story changes, and when that happens the audience's perception of all the character's motivations, attitudes and dedications changes as well, which in turn affects how you perceive the entire story. That might sound really fussy of me, but consider: When the narration voice changes THIS dramatically and the novel is written from first-person perspective, it is not only the narration that is affected. The narrator's cadence, inflection, and even accent lilt is completely different from book 1 and 2. I don't normally mind slight changes, and I'll overlook a whole range of things when it comes to narrators because I feel it's important to keep the same voice for a whole series. This one however, I am very sad to say, is ruined by the complete change in the narrator's voice. I also thoroughly enjoyed book 1 and 2 as audiobooks. Even though I couldn't listen to more than a few hours of the audiobook, I have already read the paperback 18 months ago and I remember loving it. I've never left a "negative" review before, so let me begin by saying that I LOVED this book. Narrator's voice sounds completely different Meanwhile, I am listening to this with 1,25 x speed to change the narration to robotic sounding. I will be carefully listening for a sample before buying the next audiobook.

Please redo the recording for this book, or at least tell the narrator to avoid this style in the future sequels.

From the numerous reviews addressing this issue I think I'm not alone with my thoughts. It quickly becomes very irritating and sounds like listening to a car engine being revved again and again in the middle of the night, right next to your house. The narrator, who did a suberb job in the first two books if the series, capturing perfectly the dystopian atmosphere as well as the characters, has now adopted a repeating pattern of rising the pitch and the volume of her voice in the beginning of the sentences. I have listened to the first two books many times - however I find it very difficult to listen to the Song rising because of the style change of the narration that has occurred from the first two books.

I love this series and I am eagerly waiting for the next book.
